Writing a novel is not easy, especially if it's your first. Starting with an outline is the best way to do it. But not all authors are doing this. Complicated Characters

Sometimes, authors can get too engrossed that they are tempted to add more characters in future chapters just for the sake of creating the appear deeper. This can really boomerang on the author because individuals generally like simple stories and depth is usually expected from the main characters. There is no need to add to numerous characters as the story develops because this only brings about misunderstandings and this is something readers won't understand, especially if it does not really help the story at all.
Plot is Meandering
Just because you should avoid a complicated chain of characters, you should also keep the plot simple but fascinating. You don't need a plot to have numerous sub-plots just to achieve the depth which you might be aiming for. Usually, individuals enjoy novels where the storyline is focused on a small set of characters. One advantage of this is you will be able to present each character and event in more detail without having to add new dimensions to your story. This means you will have to avoid including unnecessary elements. One way to tell if an event or character you would like to add is unnecessary is to examine if this add-on is going to affect or alter anything about your plot or the way the story is going to turn out. If it doesn't, then you're better off excluding it.
Ultimately, whenever you write your novel without an outline, you just may lose the focus and baffle your readers about what you really want to say. So again, unless you're a pro, giving those fingers a free rein on your laptop may not work in your favor. It's still better to learn the ropes by holding it.
