Paul Cézanne born today on the 19 January of year 1839 was an artist from France and a Post-Impressionist painter whose artistic works paved way for a new conception in art for the 20th Century. Cézanne is known to be a link between 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new form of artistic attempt, Cubism. The line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso that Cézanne "is the father of us all" is a powerful statement on its own.

Cezanne’s work exhibit a perfection of design, colour, pitch, composition and craftsmanship. His brushstrokes are often repetitive, very sensitive and investigative are clearly familiar with his unique style of painting. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that where repeated on after another forming a complex field which was an expression as well as recognition of abstracts in his art works. The paintings convey Cézanne's capacity to deal with the complexity of human visual perception and deep study of the subject he is painting.

Paul Cezanne was born to a successful businessman Louis-Auguste Cézanne who co-founded a banking firm that grew rapidly during Paul’s life which ensured him a huge legacy of wealth and financial stability during his formative years as a budding artist, an advantage not enjoyed by many of his counterparts.

Paul began studying and experimenting with art at a very early age where he studies drawing under Joseph Gibert, a Spanish monk, in Aix a province in south France that is also his hometown. Pauls wanted to study art against the wishes of his banker father who wanted him to join a Law School which could have given them an upper hand in business. Despite his father’s pressure Paul Cezzane did not give up his willingness to devote his life to art and paintings, thus he left Axir and shifted to Paris in the year 1861.After seeing his dedication towards art his father reconciled with him and then supported his choice of career. Later Paul was to receive an inheritance of half a million francs that rid him of all this financial worries as a budding artist.

Paul Cezanne’s early art works where often related to figures in the landscape setting and also comprised of his figment of imagination paintings of large figures in the landscape. Later in his career, he became a lot more interested in working from direct examination and steadily developed a light, airy painting style that was to manipulate the Impressionists enormously.

Paul Cézanne died in 1906, as his paintings were put on exhibition in Paris at a large scale museum-like retrospective in September 1907. This very exhibition in Paris ensured credibility to his position as one of the most significant artists of the 19th century and to the advent of Cubism.

Thus we see how a son of a wealthy Banker was able to concentrate on his career as a painter. Paul left a valuable mark in the history of at. Today several of his paintings adore the best of museums across Europe and America as he is remembered for his significance in the Impressionist art movement that began in the 20th century. Several of his fine art prints and posters are available online and in India are very much sought after.
