Our world has come a long way in technological advances. Yet it is still a dangerous place. Criminality has become more complex in nature but the sad part is that the female is still considered as an easy target. Felonies against women have, as a matter of fact, increased over the years in countries all around the world.

In a fallen world, it is far trickier for a woman to survive than their male counterparts. But that is not to say a woman can be helpless all the time. In fact, this weakness can be deceptive if the woman is using a form of self-defense. Pepper spray is the most popular weapon. It is powerful and has a far-reaching effect. The good thing about this spray is that it will not kill the attacker but is enough to incapacitate for a time. This weapon is extremely effective and can save a woman's life and dignity.

Pepper spray is called an OC spray. OC stands for Oleoresin Capsicum, basically a powerful lachrymatory agent. This is a chemical compound that can cause severe irritation of the mucous membrane (eyes and ears). At times, it can even lead to temporary blindness. Capsaicin, a chemical compound that can be derived from the chili family is the primary agent. The different types of this weapon available in the market today are Mace, Wildfire, Lipstick, and PAVA. The PAVA Pepper Spray has capsaicin, pelargonic acid vanillymide or desmethyldihydrocapsaicin. It is widely used in England. There is a synthetic version of this spray which is pelargonic acid morpholide, developed by Russians.

Controlling mobs, riots and even animals like bears, wolves, or dogs are also another use of this weapon. This is completely non-lethal although it can be deadly if used in large quantities. If an entire can is applied to human eyes, the subject will permanently go blind.

Other symptoms include difficulty in breathing, coughing, and a runny nose. Effects depend on how much was used but on average it lasts from 30 minutes to an hour.

Some important tips in using pepper spray are the following. Your thumb should be on top of the trigger when carrying a canister. Back up a little so that you will be positioned correctly when your attacker comes too close to you, Use the spray generously so that the capsaicin can do its job as quickly as possible. Get out of there in a flash while the assailant is temporarily incapacitated.

Years ago people were able to leave their front door open without having to lock it, but now with times having changed so much we not only have to lock the door but also have to fit alarms to alert the police and neighbors should a problem occur. Unfortunately it is not a case any more of the stronger person being able to defend themselves as the criminals carry guns and knives meaning the strongest of people are at their mercy, but there is a way that we can defend ourselves from such danger and that is to buy pepper spray.
